Fill Before You Tape

Nobody knows exactly where it goes, but inevitably, if there is a tear in a vinyl bus seat, some of the foam under the location of the tear will be missing.

In order to effect a good repair, you are going to need to fill the empty space with upholstery foam before taping over it.

Gaffers tape is flexible, but only to a certain point. If a tape repair is required to flex too much, it will fail.

In order to properly fill the hole, it may be necessary to actually cut away some of the foam under the cover in order to get a good fit. Try to get the replacement foam’s surface as close to the remaining foam as possible and put the new foam in place without compressing it.

Once you have created a surface that is smooth all the way across, you are then ready to apply the tape.
